Commitment to Safety

In line with our Values & Guidelines, Ecstatic Dance Nashville is committed  to create a safe space where all humans can come practice, pray, and play.

We aim to foster a space that is physically, emotionally, and energetically safe for all participants and we ask that all attendees embody a perspective that is inclusive to all, regardless of color, ethnicity, size, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, political beliefs and/or religion.

Our events are violence and hate-free spaces, and we reserve the right to deny entry or ask participants to leave a dance in order to uphold these values. By choosing to attend our events, you  agree to abide by our values and guidelines, code of ethics and behavioral expectations.

We also ask that participants dress in a way that is family-friendly and appropriate for a shared community space. For indoor dances, we request that all participants have full appropriate coverage and that everyone keep their shirts on. For outdoor dances that involve swimming or water access (such as pools, ponds, rivers, or hot springs), appropriate swimwear and dance attire are welcome. We reserve the right to address attire that may be disruptive, overly revealing, or not aligned with the container we are cultivating.

Reported/observed behaviors and incidents at our events that create an unsafe environment should be reported immediately during a dance, or through our feedback form following the dance. This includes but is not limited to: bullying, harassment, discrimination, threats, slurs, unwelcome/unsolicited touching, inappropriate behavior, inebriation, overly loud or aggressive vocalization not associated with authentic emotional release  or violence and endangerment of any kind. Any of these offenses may result in immediate removal from the dance.

Repeated or unresolved behaviors & incidents may result in the temporary or permanent loss of privilege to attend and serve at our events.

While we are committed to providing a safe dance space for all, we as an organization cannot monitor or mediate interpersonal relationship dynamics of individuals in this community outside our events. When issues arise outside of our events, we recommend that community members resolve and manage those dynamics on their own through i) open direct communication, or ii) mediated communication or private mediation with a third party, therapist or conflict resolution practitioner. Emergencies and matters/incidents of an urgent/serious nature should be taken up with local law enforcement.

In the case of personal disagreements or break-ups it can be useful for both parties to coordinate and share access to the dance in the same way parents share custody of and access to children.

Our dance floor is a space to express freely, and for this reason, we have a no phone/video/photo policy for our guests. The exception to this is a period during the Opening Circle and beginning of the dance where our staff obtain photos and videos for marketing purposes. For more details, read our full Video & Photo Policy.

If you have experienced an issue at one of our events and would like us to take action, please submit details of the situation and your request through our Feedback Form. All feedback submissions are kept strictly confidential and reviewed by our Board of Directors before deciding on any action.

Thanks for your help keeping our dances a safe space for everyone to connect and grow!
